Military campaigns are activities, so to speak... dynamic. When Kraheger's Order of War, Defense and Weapons, in operations carried out in distant lands, have to deal with deserters and traitors, they often turn to the services of creatures that, in theory, they should fight.
A strange pact forms between the forces of the Free Blood Guild, which should cherish human life, and the creatures that seek human martyrdom.
Such a pact was made with the Soul Warden.
When an expedition of Legionnaires of the Order of War has a deserter that needs to be hunted down, or a spy to be discovered and executed, they light a fire in the night, and throw some stones of blue vitriol into it. The green flame that forms in the bonfire is the signal to call the Soul Warden.
Appearing among the remains, mounted on a towering horse wearing armor, he carries his double-edged axe, with which he has decapitated countless fugitives. His executioner's hood is part of the pact, hiding the terrible intents that reveal themselves in his face. In silence, he receives the name of the one he must pursue, then disappears into darkness, to be seen no more.
The next day, the naive fugitive is always found. Or rather, his decapitated corpse. His body is left, headless, on some open road, some intersection, or hanging upside down from a tree. Always in the most visible place possible, to get his message across. As befits a good executioner to do.
